Nier: Automata” is turning out to be one of their best releases as sales have invariably gone up since it launches earlier this year, so the success of Nier: Automata has put the game director Yoko Taro to the everyone’s attention and recently Famitsu reported during SEA Summit in Singapore, Taro speaks about the insights for the success of NieR: Automata and his onward objective.

At Q&A event during the SEA Summit in Singapore, where fans ask NieR: Automata director Yoko Taro several questions, one of which is, want kind of projects he would like to work on next, for which he boldly replied,

I think this may be embarrassing, but I’d like to make an adult video and I think of it as something I’d like to at least make once in my lifetime.

While discussing future projects which could be anything from Nier and Drakengard sequel or maybe movie based on games or an adult movie. He said he’ll do it if anyone gives him money to do it.

Also when asked about the NieR: Automata sequel he said:

For the NieR: Automata sequel I’d imagined something that everyone thinks will be, then I make something that is not that. I’m going to ruin it, is what I’m thinking.

Yoko Taro also speaks on the insights for the NieR: Automata success.

This is about the previous title, but I was told that “machos are well-received” in foreign countries, especially in America. However, the game didn’t sell at all. Fans told me “I like macho, but that’s not what I look for in Square Enix games.” That previous title sold so-so in Japan, so we made NieR: Automata with the concept of let’s at least have it sell in Japan. So to be honest, I haven’t studied foreign markets at all. In the end it was a hit, and we have no idea how it sold so well. However, that makes the story I told today completely meaningless.

Nier: Automata is an action role-playing video game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows. Production started in 2014, with series creator Yoko Taro, producer Yosuke Saito and composers Keiichi Okabe and Keigo Hoashi returning to their respective roles, as well as Square Enix artist Akihiko Yoshida in charge of character design.


Nier: Automata first announced at Square Enix’s press conference at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo under the provisional title Nier New Project at the time it was announced, the game was possibly 10% complete. At the 2015 Paris Games Week trade show its official title Nier: Automata, along with a gameplay trailer and year of release was revealed. It was initially planned to release in November 2016, but Square Enix delayed release as there were concerns about its commercial enforcement against other leading titles and later Q4 or Q1 release give Nier: Automata more of a chance for their commercial success.

The game was announced for a digital release on Microsoft Windows platforms on Steam released on March 17, 2017. A concern for both Square Enix and PlatinumGames with the PC version was implied to piracy, which was expected to delay its release. When handling this problem, the teams considered using Denuvo digital rights management.
